@Toms: Good to hear of another inclined person :)

Not musician, but asking for terzina!

I'm all for collaboration (I'm French). I'm not interested by a tracker that doesn't run on CPC, though (résistance).

@BSC you mean like, eating raw fish immediately after catching with bare hands and smashing against some rock?

I am patiently waiting for some of you 'codicians' to eventually come up with an estimation on the amount of cool graphics you could combine with all the exotic sounds.

@Rex: You could include a complete screen of graphics, as you like. You could even chose your favorite color for each pixel. Sounds complicated to me, though. You want to collaborate?

BSC * 27 Jan 2020 22:28:36

@m_dResist_m: I would never find the time to make this javascript trakker anyway. Even though I'd love to have it. You purists will eventually recede :-P

Well, what I am interested to discover is whether there might be room for graphics beyond the simple static picture.

Do you estimate there could be some free cycles for any type of visual effect? Or even the chance to partially update the screen every frame or every other frame to create simplistic animation should be more interesting compared to static images.

I recall Face Hugger's MD featured an intro with music presumably from Digitracker which featured a scroller and some rasters. I am guessing it is not a similar case as with Sid emulation, but can't help but wonder...

I can't speak for Madram's sid, but Face Hugger's intro was "only" a sample, so with plenty of CPU to do something else (if you watch Demoizart "landscape" part, you have 2-channel digitrack + 2-channel PSG along with many rasters on the screen).

@Rex: The number of available cycles depends on how much CPU time you want to sacrifice for things other than audio. In general, rasters are possible, but one main difference between a sample player and my SID engine is that a sample player can be synced to one raster line (i.e. the sample period is 64us), while my player needs much more that 64us to calculate and output one sample (around 90us, depending on the mixing process). This would result in distored rasters. Changing one (or a handful of) color(s) per frame on the other hand should be possible. Or changing the CRTC screen address to get some hw scroll effects (a bit like in Logon's Run by Overflow, but very limited). Does that sound like some interesting challenge? If so, let's continue by email, because I'd love to collaborate on a prod for Revision and we got only 2 months left.

I also think that a mix between hardware scrolling the complete screen (think Logon's Run again) and color cycling could lead to some pretty nice effects. Basically anything which affects a large part of the screen at almost no cost.

I am not yet sure what competition to aim for, as there are two kinds that'd be a good fit: executable audio or oldschool demo. Using a very simple tune and state-of-the-art compression should even make 4k possible. That would be really neat..

Uhm... what is your current email? I have an and an Not sure which one is valid though.
